Book Club

Team Development

It can be hard to share your vision and to get other people to share your enthusiasm.

Are you looking for an effective personal development program for the people in your business? What if it could be delivered on site within an hour and a half each month and allow your teams to grow together and support each other?

“Follow me” may not always work. Having faced this challenge, I know that using an Internal Book club to promote leadership and personal development in a growing business will make a significant difference.

  • Allows your people to join you on the journey, and add their own thoughts and ultimately gain their support of what you are trying to achieve.
  • Having a discussion around a topic that is not directly related to work allows people to feel more confident about expressing their opinions and challenging others.
  • Allows the group to get to know each other better and trust each other more, issues that may have caused conflict in the past can become conversations.
  • Everyone learns something: about the book, about differing opinions/viewpoints, about the people they work with on a daily basis and about themselves.
  • They feel more involved in the business with a clearer understanding of the values and vision and are better able to articulate that to their teams.
  • Improves self-awareness and for some, this may bring the understanding that they are not in the right seat but in the long run we know that is the best thing for them and the company.

How it works

  • You choose the books you would like them to read, I can make suggestions but the choice will always be yours.
  • Ideally, we use books that have had an impact on the leaders of the business as well as books which will encourage lively debate and conversation.
  • A maximum of 12 per book club but 8-10 is ideal.
  • You can choose to attend or not, or I can feedback to you or the club can themselves.
  • There will be a deadline to read the book by or if you prefer, chapters.
  • I will arrange a meeting for approx 90 Minutes either monthly or fortnightly.
  • In those sessions, every person gets to share what they have learned, enjoyed or even hated about the book.
  • I will facilitate an open discussion where different opinions can be discussed openly and challenged in a healthy way.

Testimonials for leadership book club

Not an avid reader

Learned more about myself

Broadens my thinking

This is my first book club and I have to admit I was not previously an avid book reader. Mhairi does a great job of bringing together a wide variety of people to make for interesting discussions about that months chosen book. The evenings are engaging and allow me to look at the leadership / business books from other perspectives and open my mind to different ways of viewing the world. After nearly 1 year of attending I feel like I have learnt a ton and am starting to understand what it means to read a good book!  Phil Cridge

Broadens my thinking

What I love about Mhairi's book club is, first of all, it "forces" me to read at least one business book per month! Secondly, the diversity of the books chosen and the people who attend encourages some great feedback and conversation about the texts we consider. I think that in itself is the attraction, as often I learn more from those interactions than I sometimes get from the book itself! I now have a much wider appreciation and breadth of knowledge from being part of this great book club.  Paul Green

What do you love about Bookclub?

I joined Mhairi’s leadership book club earlier this year as I love reading and the idea of a book club sounded so much fun. Since joining, I’ve met a great group of people and had some great conversations about some interesting books (whether we liked them or not!), and learned more about myself & my approach to business and work. Thank you Mhairi for bringing us all together! Emily

"Yes definitely, it's a great group and I really enjoy everyone's company/ hearing their thoughts on the book. It's also perfect if you need a little bit of a push to make sure you read because it feels like you have this group of people relying on you to finish it and share your opinion."
